Moorings as High Water - The Farne Islands are on the horizon beyond the "Gantry".
The Coastline can easily be taken for granted by those who live here. We have stunning sandy golden beaches, often deserted. Bamburgh Castle sits regally above the beach to the North, with Holy Island or Lindisfarne Castle visible beyond. Holy Island is well within cruising range for a splendid day out, with splendid views, places to eat, and pubs to enjoy a leisurely drink !

Seahouses has its own famous "Kippers", as well as a selection of fresh fish and shellfish available from a local merchant just above the harbour. To the south, Dunstanburgh Castle sits on a rocky headland, behind where the village of Craster is found. Also famous for its own "Kippers", the smokery is still in use today. The village has places to eat and drink, and again is easily reachable by boat from Seahouses. Between Seahouses and Dunstanburgh, is the village of Beadnell, with its wide sweeping bay, popular with the local Beadnell Sailing Club. Beadnell has a small harbour, still used by some local fishing cobles. It is the only west facing harbour on the east coast of Britain !!

Offshore from Seahouses, lie the Farne Islands, famous for the birdlife found there, the seals that come ashore to give birth, and the famous Grace Darling story. This young woman with her father, was responsible for the rescue of a number of ship wrecked survivors from the S.S. Forfarshire, which had gone aground in heavy seas close to the Longstone Lighthouse, where her father was keeper. More information can be obtained from the Seahouses Lifeboat Website. So in addition to a rather splendid coastline, what else is there to enjoy. The harbour is usually busy during the summer, with plenty to take the interest. The Lifeboat Station, which sits on the harbour, is open daily with a souvenir shop. The village has many places to eat and drink, from quaint pubs like the Olde Ship Hotel and the Black Swan.

The The sea off Seahouses provides some excellent fishing, and the Farne Islands provide excellent opportunity for cruising and simply enjoying the scenery and marine wildlife.
